China: Govt to send squads to mining regions to rein in rising thermal coal prices

Amid rising power demand in China with the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, regulators have dispatched squads to major mining regions to ensure that coal prices remain within a reasonable range. Domestic 5500 kcal/kg NAR coal prices were at RMB 1,300/t ($195) at Qinhuangdao, higher than RMB 1,155/t ceiling set by the government. The move has come after several provinces warned of possible power shortage in summer.
