A total of 16 vessels with combined light displacement tonnage (LDT) of 182,836 were received at Alang for recycling in May’22, down 12% compared with 208,170 LDT in Apr. SteelMint data shows that 88 ships were beached at Alang for demolition during Jan-May’22. It was difficult for buyers to make substantial buying decisions due to the fear of unforeseen changes as the market remained highly volatile during the last month.
