China: Domestic coal prices ease as NDRC imposes price ceiling

After rising sharply over the last few weeks, domestic 5500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal prices in China have eased to RMB 1,080/t ($161), down RMB 120/t w-o-w following the government’s decision to boost output. State planner NDRC has pushed for price caps to keep prices within a reasonable range. Power companies assured of sufficient term-contract deliveries have moved to the sidelines after the announcement.
