Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro said on 19 May’22 that it will invest NOK 320 million ($33.36 mn) to modernise and upgrade the power supply system and the anode rodding plant at its Karmoy aluminum smelter to supply low-carbon aluminum products to the European market. The project will begin in Q4 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Hydro Karmoy’s annual production of primary aluminum is around 270,000 t.
