Miners lead the direct tax payer list in Odisha

Miners have continued to be the leading direct tax payers in the state both in
the personal and enterprise categories.

In the personal level Indrani Patnaik
is on the top of the list followed by KJS Ahluwalia,while MCL and OMC are
leading in the enterprise category.

According to the
Chief Income tax commissioner (Bhubaneswar) Santosh Kumar Srivastav, leading
miner  Indrani Patnaik have paid Rs 185
crore income tax in the recently concluded 2012-13 financial year, compared to
only Rs.60 crore in the previous fiscal, thereby posting a growth of whopping
208 %.

However, income tax payment by KJS Ahluwalia has dropped by 49% to Rs.76
crore against Rs.149 crore in the previous fiscal due to fall in production owing
to closure of mining operations.

In the
enterprise category the Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL),a coal India subsidiary,
has topped the list with Rs.1900 crore advance tax payment followed by the
Odisha Mining Corporation(OMC) with 465 crore tax payment and Nalco with Rs.
225 crore advance tax payment.
