China: Steel imports fall by 5%, m-o-m, in April

China’s steel imports in Apr’22 fell marginally by 4.95% m-o-m to 0.96 mnt from 1.01 mnt in Mar, as per customs data.
Preference for domestic steel, a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases across large parts of the country and weak end-user demand impacted imports.
Import volumes fell by 15% to 4.17 mnt in Jan-Apr’22 as against 4.89 mnt in the same period of last year.
