After falling sharply over the last few days, South African RB1 (6000 kcal/kg NAR) grade coal prices have bounced back by $16/t d-o-d to $274/t FOB as on 3 May. The rise in prices came amid increasing instances of cargo shortage at RBCT Port and rail transport issues. The country’s rail operator Transnet recently declared force majeure at the port due to rising cases of vandalism and wagon unavailability.
