India: NMDC’s iron ore production, sales inch up, y-o-y, in Apr’22

India’s largest iron ore miner, NMDC, produced 3.15 million tonnes (mnt) of the steel-making raw material in Apr’22, a marginal increase against 3.13 mn t in Apr’21.

However volumes fell sharply by 37% m-o-m compared to 4.98 mnt in Mar’22 as it being fiscal year-end miners raised production, SteelMint learnt from company sources.

Out of the total volume produced in Apr’22, a major chunk was recorded from NMDC’s Chhattisgarh mines at 2.54 mnt, while the remaining 0.61 mnt was extracted from its Karnataka mines. The miner’s production from Chhattisgarh and Karnataka fell significantly by 31% and 53%, m-o-m, respectively.

Iron ore sales inch up y-o-y 

The miner’s iron ore sales were recorded at 3.12 mnt in Apr’22 largely stable on a y-o-y basis. Total sales from the Chhattisgarh mines stood at 2.65 mnt and the remaining 0.47 mnt were from its Karnataka mines. However, NMDC reported a 26% decrease in its total iron ore sales in Apr’22 to 3.12 mnt as against 4.21 mnt in Mar’22.
