Inner Mongolia’s average daily output of raw coal was at 3.2 mnt in January-February, 2022, which may mitigate the shortage of coal supply in China.
In January-February, 2022, coal mines produced 190 mnt of raw coal, up 11.6% y-o-y. For the last five months, Inner Mongolia’s average daily output of raw coal has exceeded 3 mnt.
Ordos contributes 90% of bituminous coal
Category-wise, bituminous coal output in January-February, 2022 was 129 mnt, accounting for 68.2% of the total output of raw coal, up 16% y-o-y which is the main factor for the rapid growth in raw coal output in the whole region. Specifically, the output of bituminous coal in Ordos was 117 mnt, accounting for 90.3% of the output of bituminous coal in the whole region, and driving up its output in the whole region by 17%.
Anthracite output down 32.2% y-o-y
From January to February, the output of anthracite was 1.57 mnt, down 32.2% y-o-y, the output of coking bituminous coal was 4.2 mnt, up 7.6% y-o-y.
For the same period, lignite output was 54.7 mnt, accounting for 28.8% of the region’s raw coal output, up 4.4% y-o-y, driving 1.4 percentage points in the region’s raw coal growth. Specifically, lignite output in Xilingol League was the highest, accounting for 40.7% of the lignite output in the whole region, driving the lignite output growth of 3.4 percentage points.
Private enterprises’ coal output up 20%
In January-February, 2022, output of raw coal from private enterprises was 71 mnt, up 20.1% y-o-y.
Raw coal output of state-owned enterprises in the region was 119 mnt, up 7% y-o-y.
Ordos, Inner Mongolia dominant contributors
The output of raw coal from January to February in 11 producing cities saw an increase in 5 of them and decline in the balance 6. Specifically, the output of the main raw coal producing areas kept growing. The output of Ordos was 124 mnt, up 16.2% y-o-y, accounting for 65.5% of the total raw coal output of the whole region. Xilingol League produced 22.39 mnt, up 8.6% y-o-y. The output of Hulun Buir was 17.9 mnt, up 8.6% y-o-y.
