Opening Bell: LME, SHFE nickel futures spike, US agrees to lift sanction on UK

  • US partially lifts section 232 tariffs on UK aluminium which were earlier levied with 10% to protect the domestic industry.
  • LME aluminium futures gained yesterday while nickel prices continued to remain volatile with a spike over 15% for the first time since trading resumed last week.
  • A similar trend was also seen in SHFE Nickel contracts which rose sharply by 17% on 24 Mar’22 to RMB 245,740/t ($38,554/t) d-o-d. The declining trend in LME stocks of  aluminium and nickel continued for another day.
