India: Thermal coal prices surge amid depleting portside stocks of imported coal

Depleting port stocks of imported thermal coal is pushing up prices of domestic coal, as buyers’ dependence on domestic supplies are increasing. The average price of GCV 4500 kcal/kg run of mine (ROM) coal in Wani, Maharashtra, last week was assessed at INR 11,450/t, up INR 516/t w-o-w. Prices of GCV 5800 kcal/kg ROM coal were recorded at INR 13,650/t in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh, an increase of INR 316 /t on the week.
