India: Dry Ship Prices for breaking fall by USD 25/MT W-o-W

Dry Ship prices reaching to Alang (Gujarat) for breaking has witnessed a downfall of USD 25/MT W-o-W, according to local traders.

With market remaining bearish and depreciating INR, prices of dry ship arriving to country for breaking has witnessed a downfall with current price standing at USD 445/MT in Alang, the world’s 5th largest ship breaking yard.

Alang ship breaking market in past few months remains quite volatile with continuous fall in plate prices generated from ship breaking and depreciating Indian currency. Currently, 4ANE plate is offered at INR 25,500/MT that declines by INR 2,500/MT M-o-M

Market participants are of the view that the fall in domestic plate prices and depreciating currency were last seen in the same period of year 2013.

On the other side, it is learned from the sources that post Ramadan buying appetite from Bangladesh & Pakistan has improved with increase in number of vessels to countries. However, number of vessels reaching to India has declined slightly
