Indian Chrome Ore Production falls by 3% in FY14 – Statistic

Indian production in FY13 stood at 2,943,287 MT, out of which 99% of Chrome ore was produced in Odisha. This has fallen to 2,851,832 MT in FY14.

1. India had exported around 195,000 MT Chrome ore in FY14 against 194,500 in FY13
2. Indian imports have risen by around 20% to 261,000 MT in FY14 compared to 216,000 MT in FY13
3. Major Chrome ore producers, who uses ore for captive consumption, includes IMFA, Facor and Tata Steel
4. OMC, India’s largest and state owned merchant miner, has produced 580,000 MT Chrome ore and 78,000 MT Chrome Conc in the last fiscal year i.e. FY14

Indian Ferro Chrome Scenario

1. Ferro Chrome production in India has been stagnant at over 1 MnT pa for the last 3 years
2. Six producers account for almost 80% of total production
3. Currently, about 50% of Ferro Chrome produced in India is being exported to other states
