India: Power supply shortfall widens in ongoing fiscal compared to FY’21

Shortfall in power supply has increased to 5,144 million units (MU) in the ongoing fiscal, exceeding the previous fiscal’s levels of 4,871 MU. The deficit has been reduced significantly over the past decade. In fact, the drop was more pronounced post FY’16. However, the marginal spike was attributable to the unprecedented rise in power demand, which was not duly met by the plants facing a crunch in coal stocks.
