Bhubaneswar: Admitting the intervening petition on Rule-37 violation at the Takurani – B Iron ore mines, the Odisha High Court on Thursday has issued notices to government of Odisha and JSPL. A bench comprising of justice Indrajit Mohanty and justice Biswanath Mohapatra has asked both parties to submit their responses by 5 Aug, 2014 and the court has decided to hear the case on the next day i.e. 6 Aug, 2014.
Sarda Mines, the lessee holding Thakurani mines is in dock for glaring violation of Rule-37 of Mineral Concession Rules-1960. The mines owner was selling its entire run of mine (ROM) to Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) without any written agreement. Also, the Iron sale by the lessee was at unacceptably low rates compared to market prices.
Iron ore mine has been closed since April this year. The office of the Deputy Director of Mines- DDM (Joda) had issued a closure notice to the miner since its environment clearance (EC) expired on 1 Apr, 2014 and even JSPL was denied to carry forward socked minerals at the mines head. Later, JSPL has challenged it at the High Court and one Jyotiranjan Mohapatra has filed the intervening petition.
