China is planning to come up with some measures that will reduce energy consumption by key industries like steel, building materials, petrochemicals, non-ferrous metals and others, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said in a conference on 28 February.
The aim is to promote the smooth operation and quality improvement of industry, the state agency said.
This plan focuses on four main aspects:
1) Implement carbon peaking action plan before 2030: The state council plans to implement and promote the carbon peaking action plan before 2030 in the key industries in a stable and scientific manner.
2) Promoting in-depth adjustment of industrial structure: The policy will focus on building and strengthening the supply-side structural reforms of key industries. It will also strive to build an industrial structure that is conducive to carbon emission reduction.
It also aims to strictly implement the production capacity replacement policy in steel, cement, flat glass, electrolytic aluminium and other industries as well as curb high-energy consuming and high emission projects. Besides that, it also focuses on strictly controlling the energy consumption level of industries, especially steel.
3) Implement green and low-carbon policy: The government will strive to implement green and low-carbon transformation measures in the manufacturing industry by effectively utilising industrial resources and strengthening special monitoring services for energy conservation. The government will set up green data centers for carbon peaking.
4) Developing low-carbon product supply system: Lastly, the government will consider establishing a green and low-carbon product supply system to improve the supply chain of green products and energy-saving equipment like wind power etc.
