Odisha, India’s top iron ore producing state, recorded merchant dispatches at 5.73 million tonnes (mnt) in Jan’22, up 9% m-o-m as against 5.25 mnt in Dec’21.
The total dispatch figure excludes movement for exports and from the captive mines of SAIL, Tata Steel, Prakash Industries, Sree Metaliks, AM/NS India, Kashvi International, Narbheram Power & Steel and JSW Steel’s Gonua and Narayanposhi iron ore mines.
Key highlights
- JSW Steel recorded the highest dispatches at 1.46 mnt from its two merchant mines in Odisha in Jan. Dispatches increased 15% m-o-m compared to 1.27 mnt in Dec.
- State-owned OMC recorded a significant 26% surge in dispatches to 1.43 mnt compared to 1.13 mnt in Dec.
- Dispatches from Rungta stood at 1.24 mn t for the month, increasing by 39% m-o-m against 0.89 mn t in Dec.
- Dispatches from Essel Mining rose by 10% to 0.57 mnt in Jan compared with 0.52 mnt in Dec. Notably, Essel’s Koira iron ore mining lease expired on 26 Aug’21 and dispatches taking place are those of previous bookings.
