South Korea: Color steel sheets exports rise 20% y-o-y in Jan’22

South Korea’s color steel sheets export volumes stood at 121,657 tonnes (t) in Jan’22, an increase of 20% as against 101,007 t in the same period last year. Also, on a m-o-m basis, the same rose 7% compared to 113,594 t in Dec’21.

Exports to Japan increased 25% y-o-y to 1,778 t, Europe at 46,954 t (up 106%), North America at 15,023 t (up 4%), Latin America and Oceania at 18,113 t and 6,976 t respectively.

Notably in CY’21, the monthly average export volume of color steel sheets was 113,000 t, as per SteelDaily report.

Import volumes down 28% y-o-y

South Korea’s color steel sheets imports stood at 25,904 t in Jan’22, down 28% against 35,843 t in the same period last year. However, on a monthly basis, the same went up 33% compared to 19,407 t in Dec’21.

Imports from China accounted for 99% of South Korea’s total imports in Jan’22.
