Australia: Anglo American’s lower premium hard coking coal output creates supply shortage

Major miner Anglo American’s combined premium hard coking coal output from key mines, Moranbah and Grosvenor in Australia fell by 44% y-o-y basis in CY’21. The Moranbah mine remained closed for four months during the year while the Grosvenor mine failed to secure regulatory approvals after it was closed in May’20. Thus, lower output from these mines contributed to a shortage of high-grade coking coal from Australia.
