As per the environmental clearance limit (EC limit), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is India’s biggest iron ore miner with the highest EC limit of 59.81 mntpa. But, despite having the highest EC limit in the country, SAIL’s overall production is around 38 mntpa only.
State-owned iron ore miner National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) is the second biggest miner with a total EC limit of 51.9 mntpa.
Private steel maker Tata Steel has the third biggest iron ore mining EC limit of 46 mn t.
