Coal exports from Colombia’s largest mine Cerrejon reached 22.7 mnt in 2021, down 2.3 mnt from its projected target of 25 mnt. However, exports rose by 67% y-o-y amid strong coal demand last year. The fall in exports was due to unusual rainfall, rising Covid cases and a workers’ strike at the mine that affected overall production in 2021.
