Colombia’s coal production expected to increase by 10% in CY’22

Colombia’s Mines and Energy Minister was quoted as saying recently that the country’s coal output is expected to increase by 8-12% on year in 2022. The growth is expected to be driven by strong demand in Asia and Europe. However, the production forecast is well below 82.4 mn t recorded in 2019. In 2020, the pandemic year, Colombia faced labour issues that severely hampered coal production.
