Malaysia: Power firm TNB seeks alternative coal sources amid Indonesia export ban

Malaysia’s largest power company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has intensified its search for alternative sources of thermal coal in the shadow of Indonesia’s coal export ban. TNB has put out a tender for spot purchase of coal from Australia, South Africa and Russia. Despite easing of restrictions in Indonesia, progress in releasing vessels has been slow, thereby pushing up global coal prices.
