Taiwan: Growing power demand lifts coal imports by 10%, y-o-y, in CY’21

Taiwan’s coal imports rose by 10% y-o-y to 69.6 mn t in CY’21 on rising power demand, CoalMint’s vessel line-up data shows. Major power cuts last year had compelled several semiconductor factories to impose phased blackouts to manage electricity shortages. The country’s bituminous coal imports rose by 11% y-o-y to 57.2 mn t. Met coke imports, however, fell by 20% y-o-y to 0.2 mn t in CY’21.
