India: Overall coal imports fall by 4% in CY’21; coking coal imports up 10%

India’s coal imports fell by 4% y-o-y to 212.5 mn t in CY’21, customs data shows. Thermal coal imports stood at 140 mn t, down 12% y-o-y, while coking coal imports stood at 55.6 mn t, up 10% y-o-y. Imports of PCI coal rose by a whopping 87% y-o-y to 12.4 mn t last year, while pet coke imports fell sharply to 4.8 mn t, down 52% y-o-y.
