India’s total consumption of petroleum products during Apr-Oct’21 stood at 112.9 mn t against 103.7 mn t in same period last year, thus recording arise of 8.4% y-o-y basis. In the latest figures available for Oct’21 the consumption stood at 17.9 mn t, up marginally by 0.7% against Oct’20.

Notably, HSD (High Speed Diesel), MS (Motor Spirit), LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas), Naphtha & Petcoke contribute to 81% of total petroleum products consumption.

HSD is used mainly as transportation fuel in rail or road transportation. MS is mostly used in private vehicles and two wheelers while LPG is majorly used for cooking and specific industrial applications. Petroleum Coke is used in cement sector whereas Naphtha is mostly used in Fertilizer industries and power plants. There is significant decline of 23.5% in pet coke’s consumption this year amid its surged price in line with risen coal costs.
