China: Billet prices up despite fall in rebar futures

Steel billet prices in China’s Tangshan rose by RMB 60/t ($9.5/t) to RMB 4,420/t ($693/t), inclusive of 13% VAT, on 20 Dec’21. Prices rose following recent announcements on air pollution curbs. However, physical trades remained limited. According to SteelMint data, China’s rebar futures contract for May’22 delivery on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) closed today at RMB 4,475/t ($702/t), down RMB 30/t ($5/t), d-o-d.
