India's iron ore production fall by 15% Y-o-Y- Reports

India's domestic iron ore production dropped over 15% in 2012-2013 in an attempt to curb illegal mining and exports. Current iron ore production stands at around 142 million tonnes (provisional) against 169 million tonnes in 2011-2012. Numbers have come down drastically specially after Supreme court had banned all mining activities in Goa, which contributes almost 20% India's iron ore production, in the month of September.

More over Odisha found irregularities and violation of environmental and mining norms and resulted in suspending operations in some major mines. Odisha contributes almost 40% of India's iron ore production.

Something to cheer for mining industry in Karnataka, after Supreme court lifts ban on mining from B grade mines. Karnataka contributed around 9% of production in 2012-2013.
