India's steel consumption grew to 5.6 MnT in April '13

In April 2013, Indian steel consumption, production, imports and exports data:

Consumption:

In April 2013, India's steel consumption grew to 5.6 MnT in comparison to 5.4 MnT in April 2012.

It was up by 3.5% in April, slight improvement than the average 3.3% growth in FY 2011-12.

In 2012-13, the Nation's steel consumption was 73.3 MT, which was 71 MT in 2011-12. Hence, it increased by 3.3% Y-o-Y.

Production:

In April 2013, India's steel consumption was at 6.4 MnT, up by 4.5
% Y-o-Y i.e. 6.5%.

Company wise production in April 2013 and Y-O-Y Change:

SAIL  820,000 tons, down by 0.8%

RINL 230,000 tons, down by 2.1%

Tata Steel 600,000 tons, up by 38.2%

JSW and Essar Steel 2 MT, up by 6.6%  

Imports:

In April 2013, imports dropped to 47.8% to 350,000 tons. It was 670,000 tons in April 2012. 

Exports: 

In April 2013, exports moved up by 44.4% to 450,000 tons. It was 310,000 tons in April 2012.
