China’s key mills’ crude steel production drops 17% y-o-y in Sept

In Sept’21, China’s key iron and steel enterprises produced a total of 61.04 mn t of crude steel, a y-o-y decrease of 16.59%, as per data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA). The daily output of crude steel from these key mills was 2.03 mn t, a m-o-m decrease of 7% over the previous month and a y-o-y decrease of 12.63%.

Pig iron’s daily output of 1.85mn t saw a m-o-m decrease of 5.53%.

Production of steel products, at 6.09 mn t, saw a y-o-y decrease of 14.89%. Daily output of the same was at 2 mn t, a m-o-m decrease of 6.35%.

From January to September, these mills produced 648 mn t of crude steel, up 4.24% y-o-y, Cumulative daily output of crude steel was 2.37 mn t, a y-o-y increase of 4.62%.

Cumulative pig iron production was at 564 mn t, y-o-y increase of 1.86%. The cumulative daily output was 2.06 mn t, a y-o-y increase of 2.23%. The cumulative production of finished steel in this period was at 624 mn t, a cumulative y-o-y increase of 5.30%, and the cumulative daily output of steel products was 2.29 mn t, a y-o-y increase of 5.68%.
