The Indonesian thermal coal index for all grades surged further this week by $8-36/t on strong Southeast Asian demand and the ongoing disruption in Indonesia’s coal production due to heavy rains. Force majeure at Russia’s Vanino Port and South Africa’s RBCT further supported prices, with 5000 GAR coal prices rising by $36/t, w-o-w, to $197/t. 6500 GAR coal was traded at $219/t.
