SteelMint Introduces Special Report on
“Iron Ore Railway Movement”
JSW Steel, India’s largest private sector steel producer with an annual capacity of 14.3 MnT, is to announce Q4 results on 27 May, 2014. SteelMint tried to find out how company performed in terms of Iron ore supply.
With Iron ore mining in Karnataka reviving at a slow pace, company has been aggressively procuring Iron ore from private miners based in Odisha/Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh (NMDC).
Company’s 100% Iron ore movement is through railways from Odisha, Jharkhand & Chhattisgarh and partial in Karnataka.

One rake carries around 3,850 MT of Iron ore
Odisha/Jharkhand
JSW Steel sourced around 1.2 MnT of Iron ore from Odisha & Jharkhand. Landed cost of Iron ore would be around INR 4,800/MT for Fe 63% Iron fines considering fines prices at around INR 2,500/MT (loaded to wagons, including royalty).
Chhattisgarh
Company sourced around 1 MnT of Iron ore from NMDC, Chhattisgarh in Q4 FY14, which was largely taken to its Salem plant. Landed cost of NMDC’s Iron ore fines would be around NR 5,200-5,400/MT (Fe 64%, including royalty).
Karnataka
JSW Steel bought around 4.36 MnT of Iron ore from Karnataka’s e-auction. Out of which, 1.38 MnT is Iron ore fines, 1 MnT is lumps and 1.98 MnT is ROM (low grade).
