India: Alang’s shipbreaking imports rise 46%, m-o-m

Alang has witnessed a 46% rise in shipbreaking imports in Sep’21 to 132,024 LDT (13 ships) against 90,588 LDT in Aug. In the 1 Jan-30 Sep period, 154 ships were beached at Alang for demolition. Going forward into Q4 CY’21, sources reported that Alang buyers were maintaining vessel pricing at a notch lower, which has kept them at a better position compared to neighbouring South Asian peers.
