Shah commission's report should not be as critical as Karnataka- Odisha Miners

Justice MB Shah commission committee, which is probing irregularities and illegal mining activities in the state of Odisha, is likely to submit its report before July 2013.

Industry experts are quite confident that report will be not be as critical as Karnataka and Goa.

Most of them also rule out complete ban on mining. Some believe miners will be let go by imposing penalties.

Industry officials highlight that extent of violation in Odisha is very less as compared to Karnataka and Goa.

“We are hopeful that shah commission's report will not be as critical as Karnataka.

There is a difference between irregularities and violation. Miners might have violated the norms but have not done illegal mining.

There is a possibility that report will classify mines in 3 categories as they did in Karnataka.

Based on that they will be allowed mining,” said a senior official at Eastern Zone Mining Association.
