The Chinese government has urged its industry participants to establish long-term coal supply arrangements and also encouraged stocking of coal in off-season for use during the peak winter-heating season. This has made the country’s thermal coal spot prices and futures go up, further impacting the global thermal coal prices including S.Africa. The RB1 (6000 NAR) thermal coal price has shot up from $163/t to $170/t in a single day.
