Iran’s DRI Exports in First 5 Months of Current Persian Year

Iran’s DRI exports shows an upward trend in the first 5 months of the Persian Year (PY) 1400 compared to last year. DRI exports in the first 5 months of PY1400 (21 Mar’21, to 21 Aug’21) increased by 190% to 490,000 tonnes from 169,000 tonnes in PY1399 (21 Mar’20 to 21 Aug’20). According to reports, Iran has been facing an unprecedented power crisis since the second week of Jul’21. Power outages have lowered semi-finished and steel production in Iran following which mills have turned active in sponge iron exports.
It is to be noted that Iran’s DRI exports were at 843,000 tonnes in PY1399 and 750,530 tonnes in PY1398.
