South Korea: Thermal coal imports down 27% on month in Aug’21

South Korea’s thermal coal imports stood at 8.46 mn t in Aug’21, down 27%, m-o-m, as per customs data. The country majorly imports thermal coal from Australia from where prices have risen by an average of 25% in Aug. In the Jan-Aug’21 period, thermal coal imports by South Korea reached 63.5 mn t, up marginally by 2% on the year.
