India: Thermal coal imports drop 6% on month in Aug’21

India’s non-coking coal imports decreased 6%, m-o-m, to slide down to 9.48 mn t in Aug’21, extending a three-month declining trend, CoalMint data shows. Elevated thermal coal prices alongside availability of cheap domestic coal weighed on sentiments last month. In the Jan-Aug’21 period, Indian total thermal coal imports stood at 101.85 mn t – an increase of 3%, y-o-y.
