Production at Mala Roy; Company stopped after lease expiry

Bhubaneswar: Production at the Mala Roy and others mines situated at Julhari Panhayat in Joda mining circle has been closed down following the expiry of its lease validity on 15th of this month.

The Joda deputy directorate of mines had issued a notice vied letter no 1725/10/2013 to the mines authorities to close operations.

“We had issued a notice to the authorities of the mines to stop mining from 15th of this month.

This was the 3rd renewal of the mining lease” said Vishnupad Rout, Mining Officer at Joda.

The lessee has already started its efforts to arrange Gram Sabha which is necessary to get the mining renewal.

However, as per sources, the local people have expressed their displeasure against the mining company for not doing adequate peripheral development work for last 60 years of its mining operation.

“The company has not done any satisfactory development work in our area for the last several decades.

Neither any industrial units have been set up by the miner nor has any action been taken to provide employment to the local youth.

So, getting consent of the Gram Sabha would be a hard task for the company”said Er. Radhakant Nayak, Ex Sarpanch of the Panchayat.
