Of the thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 2,800 MW that had shut operations last week due to coal supply shortage, plants with cumulative capacity of only about 600 MW have resumed operations. Supply crunch has turned severe in Rajasthan, with power plants in the state that require 15-16 rakes of coal every day receiving only about 10-11 rakes per day. To return to normal stock levels, these plants would need 18-20 rakes of coal every day for the coming 15-20 days on a consistent basis, market participants informed.
