During the first 10-days of Aug’21, the total production of crude steel from key steel mills covered under CISA’s amounted to 20.44 million tonnes (mn t). Pig iron production in the same period was at 18.33 mn t, and finished steel at 19.16 mn t.
The average daily output of crude steel was at 2.04 mn t, down 3% from the level of the preceding 10-day period and down 4.4% y-o-y. Daily average pig iron output was at 1.83 mn t, down 2.66% from the figure seen in the preceding 10-day period and down 5.09% y-o-y. The average daily output of finished steel was 1.92 mn t, down 9.46% from the level recorded in the preceding 10-day period and down 4.16% y-o-y. (The output estimate has been affected by the change in Angang’s data collection method from its ERP system and the factor of recording inventory at month-end. The output decrease is notable compared with the level of the preceding 10-day period. Excluding these factors, the steel output in this period is 5.49% down from the level of the preceding period).
If we compare the average daily output in the first 10 days of Aug’21 with the same period of last month, then crude steel is down 4.65%, pig iron is down by 2.78% and finished steel, down 7.38%.
