Tata Steel has opportunity to raise steel output to 40 mn t/year – T.V. Narendran

Tata Steel CEO T.V. Narendran has said that the steel major’s India operations have the opportunity to go towards 40 mn t/year of crude steel production from existing sites, although expansion plans are yet to be taken up by the company’s board. Tata Steel will rely both on iron ore-rich eastern India – sustaining the company’s key Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar operations – and recycling and scrap materials in the west, north and south of the country, he further informed. Besides organic growth, the steelmaker is also focusing on inorganic growth via NCLT. It has expressed keenness to be a part of the resolution process for state-owned NINL and RINL, although the timeline for resolution is yet to be announced.
