A demand notice of INR 145 crore has been issued to ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel JV, AM/NS for falling short of its production target at the mine it acquired in Odisha last year.
AM/NS bagged rights to the Thakurani Iron Block in Joda, quoting a premium of 107.55 per cent. The Odisha government has been issuing demand notices under Sub Rule-I of 12(A) of (Other than Atomic and Hydrocarbon Energy Mineral) concession Rules,2016 to everyone that has failed to meet MDPA targets, a year after these leases were signed.
The shortfall in respect of the 228.744 Ha Thakurani iron ore block 1.96 lakh tonnes, of the total despatch target of 42.02 lakh tonnes.
For unexplained reasons, most of these notices addressed to different lessees refer to Balda Iron ore Block, making them potentially non-compilable. AM/NS is believed to have pointed out this error and some other figures it contests with, to the Mining Directorate.
