Amid the ongoing unrest in Afghanistan, coal supplies from that country to Pakistan have been hit forcing buyers to look at alternative sources of imports, market participants informed. Cement manufacturers in northern Pakistan have been buying high-CV Afghan coal since the past two months amid elevated prices of imported coal. But now the cement manufacturers in Pakistan would have to buy pricier Indonesian and South African cargoes amid strong construction demand in Pakistan thereby further raising thermal coal prices.
