Japan: Ferro chrome imports up over 27% on month in Jun’21

According to customs data, Japan’s ferro chrome imports spiked 27.6% to 68,284 t m-o-m in Jun’21 compared to 48,798 t in May. Imports from Kazakhstan surged by 99% m-o-m in Jun. Owing to increased demand from special and stainless steel producers, Kazakhstan remained the largest exporter of ferro chrome to Japan accounting for 55% of Japan’s total imports followed by South Africa with 27% of Japan’s share of total imports. However, Japan’s imports stood at 318,313 t in H1 CY’21 – down slightly by 2.4% compared to the corresponding period last year.
