India: Sarda Energy and Minerals’ pellets output hits record high in Q1FY’22

Sarda Energy and Minerals Limited (SEML) reported a rise of 45% in its pellets output on a yearly basis at 0.21 million tonnes (mn t) as against 0.14 mn t in Q1FY’21. Quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q), output picked up compared to 0.13 mn t in Q4FY’21. The company has achieved its highest-ever production of iron ore pellets, aided by an incremental production capacity of 200,000 tonnes (t).

The highlights of the company’s quarterly results are as follows:

  • Pellets sales doubled in Q1FY’22: The company’s iron ore pellets sales depicted an almost two-fold increase to 0.16 mn t as against 0.08 mn t in Q1FY21.
  • Sponge iron output up 42% in Q1FY22: The company’s sponge iron output in Q1FY22 stood at 0.07 mn t, up 42% as compared to 0.05 mn t in Q1FY 21 at 0.05 mn t. However, on a quarterly basis, the company has recorded decline in sponge iron output by 24%. Sponge Iron production was impacted q-o-q due to planned shutdown of one kiln for 54 days in Q1FY22; production recommenced from 10 Jul’21.
  • Highest-ever production of wire rods: The company’s wire rod production saw an increase to 44,000 t in Q1FY’22 as against 22,000 t in Q1FY’21.

It is also a leading producer and exporter of ferro alloys with manufacturing facilities at Raipur and Vizag. It has interests in the hydro power sector too through special purpose vehicles (SPVs).
