A total volume of 4.07 million tonnes (mn t) of thermal coal is scheduled to arrive at various ports in India between 28 Jul’21-19 Aug’21, CoalMint’s vessel line-up data (as on 28 Jul’21) reveals.
Amidst rising prices of thermal coal from major exporting countries and weak demand conditions in India, vessel arrivals between the above-mentioned period of 20 days have seen a considerable decline of 54% against the vessels arrivals during same period last month.
Imports from Indonesia, however, witnessed a rise of 50% m-o-m to 1.81 mn t this week. Imports from South Africa fell to 0.76 mn t this week, down 17% m-o-m.
Vessel arrival from Australia fell by 21% m-o-m to 0.56 mn t while that from Russia witnessed a rise to 0.24 mn t this week as against 0.04 mn t seen last month.

With regard to vessels coming in from Indonesia this week, the highest volume of 0.37 mn t is set to arrive for Adani Enterprise, followed by 0.26 mn t for Agarwal Coal, 0.17 mn t for Coastal Gujarat Power, and 0.16 mn t for Adani Power.
As for South African coal, Adani Enterprise booked the highest volume of 0.16 mn t, followed by Swiss Singapore with 0.12 mn t, and a combined vessel for Agarwal Coal and Saraogi Udyog of 67,000 t.
A total of 0.43 mn t of Australian coal, on the other hand, is set to arrive for Adani Enterprise at Hazira, Krishnapatnam, Mundra, Bedi, and Dahej ports, while 0.14 mn t of Australian coal will arrive for Db Trade Link, Gautam Freight and Friends Impex together at Kandla Port.
Mundra Port highest receiver of thermal coal

Mundra Port overtook Krishnapatnam Port this week to become the highest receiver of thermal coal at 0.58 mn t, with the maximum quantity of 0.33 mn t coming in from Indonesia, 0.18 mn t from Russia, and 78,420 t from Australia.
Following Mundra, Hazira Port is set to receive the second-highest volume of 0.47 mn t with the maximum quantity coming in from Indonesia (0.21 mn t), South Africa (0.13 mn t), Australia (75,000 t), and Russia (60,000 t).
Krishnapatnam Port is the next highest receiver of thermal coal at 0.39 mn t with the highest volume of 0.14 mn t arriving from Australia.
Adani Enterprise top buyer for over a month
Adani Enterprise is set to bring in a total volume of 0.95 mn t of thermal coal from Australia, Indonesia, and South Africa in the coming weeks. Despite rising prices, Adani Enterprise has been consistently bringing in vessels to India since the past few months.
Agarwal Coal is set to bring a total volume of 0.26 mn t of thermal coal, while Swiss Singapore has booked 0.23 mn t for the coming week.
