Malaysia: OM Holdings’ ferro silicon output drops 40% in Q2 CY’21

Malaysian ferroalloys major, OM Holdings, Sarawak, has reported 40% production loss on a quarterly basis for ferro silicon in Q2 CY’21, while manganese alloys and sintered manganese ore output fell 34% and 38% respectively. During the quarter, 12 out of the company’s 16 furnaces were operational – six each for ferro silicon and manganese alloys. Of the remaining four furnaces, two had been idled for the purpose of conversion to produce manganese alloys, while the other two continue to remain idle due to manpower shortage. Operations were temporarily suspended at the plant from 28 May’21 which resulted in the loss of output
