Australian thermal coal prices for high-ash 5,500 NAR grade material continue to remain strong at $90/t on FoB basis, with overbooking from buyers. Increased bookings have been observed from South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, while spot cargoes for Aug’21 are not available, market participants informed. Buyers in India have not shown interest in booking Australian thermal coal as CNF India prices are quoted at around $118/t, for panamax vessels, which is costlier than imported pet coke and U.S. thermal coal by 8-10% per tonne on calorific value (CV) basis.
