Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) hopeful of getting stage-II forest clearance for its Daitari mines,in Jajpur district, by the end of this week. However, the Odisha government controlled miner has expressed its concern about the Supreme Court’s order on second and subsequent renewals of mines, as one of its major mine Kurmitar is running under second renewal. The mine contributes half of its annual iron ore production.
“We are hopeful that our Daitari mines would get stage-II forest clearance by the end of this week. The file is now at the government of India and is expected to be cleared soon. However, we are also concerned about the Supreme Court order on deemed renewal for Second and subsequent terms as one of our major mine Kurmitar is running under second renewal” said Saswat Mishra ,CMD of OMC.
According to Odisha government calculation there are 26 mines operating under second and subsequent (deemed) renewal and OMC’s Kurmitar is one of them.
He added that the company is awaiting the Supreme Court order and if Kurmitar mine is asked to close down it’ll be a big jolt to the company’s iron ore production. The mine come under the Koira mining circle in Sundargarh District contributes almost 50% of OMC’s iron ore production.
OMC produced 2 million tonnes of Iron ore and 0.5 million tonnes of Chrome ore in the 2013-14 financial year.
